Education Architecture

We create built-environments that foster valuable learning outcomes for students.

Specialising in on-campus projects, we tailor small-scale building alterations and additions that can be constructed during School-Holidays.

More complex or large-scale projects are thoughtfully designed and staged to allow Schools to continue to operate effectively while projects are built.

Streetscape Concept, Brigidine College

Indooroopilly, Queensland

Whiteroom Archietcts is working with Brigidine College Indoroopilly to revitalise the street presence of their Campus.

The way that the College Campus addresses and interacts with the wider community has naturally evolved over 90 Years. As building maintenance becomes due we believe it is possible to make small-scale but cohesive intervention that will enhance the streetscape of the Campus through a series of staged projects.

Upgrading access for students and creating an obvious entry to the College address on Ward Street is a priority within the proposal.

Replacement and revitalisation of tired building elements and landscaping will give the campus a  cohesive appearance and sense of place that shows off the high quality of the educational facilites within the campus which are continually improved, including a new Science and Technology building, designed by Blight Rayner Archietcts, which is currently under construction.

Education Architect in Brisbane's School Design Streetscape

Natureplay Early Learning Centre,

Deception Bay, Queensland

Childcare Architectural Design Drawing of an Early Learning Centre.

This Early Learning Centre has been thoughtfully designed to create a sanctuary for 175 children - the exterior presents an active frontage to the suburban setting, near Deception Bay North State School.

The indoor activity spaces in this Childcare Centre are centred around a large play space which connects to an island of suburban forest to the rear. The centre aims to enrich children's experiences with a high-quality educational program, and connection to place.

The ability to explore natural outdoor environments adds real value to classroom learning as it allows children to gain a deeper understanding of concepts that span traditional subject boundaries which are often difficult to achieve in a classroom setting.

The Curragh Cafe, Brigidine College

Indooroopilly, Queensland

Whiteroom Architects was engaged by Brigidine College Indooroopilly to manage the construction of a new outdoor covered seating area that forms a link between the College's main green space (The Curragh) and their new Tuck Shop (which was completed as part of a previous Whiteroom project).

A dual-purpose area that combined bleacher seating with an outdoor dining terrace has made the most of this South-facing area, which overlooks the College's only open grassy sports and play area.

Proposed as part of a Landscape design by Local Landscape Architect, Deb Robins of Aspect Studios, and with the input of Structural Engineer Brett Wellauer, of Cozens Regan Williams Prove, the project was masterfully constructed by legendary Brisbane Landscape Builders, Naturform.

With the bulk of the works on the ground completed during the  December-January School Holidays, the project was split into two stages with the roof structure being fabricated off-site and installed during the following Easter Holidays, meaning that the College could continue to operate seamlessly while the improvements were built.

Library Interior - Brigidine College

Indooroopilly, Queensland

Fun, fresh and flexible. The redevelopment of the learning hub in the School Library has uplifted existing spaces with new furniture, fixtures, fittings, library book shelving and flexible learning spaces.

What were previously desk-top computing laboratories have been converted into flexible use rooms for small groups of students and teachers to meet and work on projects in ways that are more often associated with university learning and professional work.

Augusta Early Learning Centre

Bellbird Park, Queensland

Childcare Centre Architectural Design Development Approval Drawing

Offering a state of the art Early Learning Centre, which makes the most of a prominent site that rests between a busy road and a residential neighbourhood.

Using the car parking as a buffer from road noise, the activity rooms and outdoor play space sensitively integrates with the site topography, adjacent green space and neighbourhood.

In association with Cristian Zambelli Architect, we worked through a collaborative approach to improve design outcomes together with Council Planners, our Project Team and our Client to obtain Development Approval.

Knowing the town planning process, the specialist requirements of childcare centres, and by using a sensitive approach to design, we were able to secure our client approval that suited their operational requirements and the needs of the local community.

Brigid's Cloak - Uniform Shop & Interiors Upgrade

Indooroopilly, Queensland

Minor Works were undertaken to upgrade the Uniform Shop and building common area hallways within an existing building on campus.

Utilising our experience in commercial internal fit-outs and retail we created a retail feel that allowed for a shop-like feel rather than the old-style of a 'Quarter-master' Dispensary.

Programmed to be completed during the Christmas Holidays, allowing the College to seamlessly operate the shop, without interruption.

Hallways were upgraded with Acoustic linings that allow students to display their work and improve the amenity of the busy spaces during peak times, reducing reverberate noise considerably.
